Welcome

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Faculty Guidebook. We hope that you appreciate the rich diversity of contributions as you use the respective modules. The array of disciplines and institutions represented by these authors adds to the wealth and breadth of the content. We believe that this representative cross section of authors reflects the diversity found in higher education today.

We wish to express our gratitude to these hearty souls who have stepped forward to share their research, thoughts, literature searches, risk-taking strategies, successes and occasional failures. These educators provide the reader with valuable insights on how to improve individual teaching performance and develop a culture of accountability, scholarship, and transformation in education.

We also wish to thank the thousands of participants (faculty, administrators, support staff, and students) who have indirectly contributed to this effort behind the scenes. These are the people who actively participated in Pacific Crest institutes and workshops over the last two decades. Collectively they shared their thoughts and ideas that resulted in the raw materials for many of the rubrics and tables that have been refined for presentation in this book.

Please use this valuable handbook, written for educators by educators, as your personal guide in helping transform higher education, one instructor, one student, and one institution at a time.
