A warm, sunny weekend in early January in Florida followed by a similar February gathering in frigid Wisconsin made it clear that the energy generated is based on shared deep desires of committed educators and is not dependent on external conditions. Synergy abounds when talented educators, from across the country, who share beliefs and practices grounded in Process Education have an opportunity to gather for quality time together.

The thirty-two people at Brevard Community College included representatives from all of the current Centers for Process Educations along with an array of individuals from across the country. The group included veterans of Process Education who have been involved for many years and others who are very new to the concepts and practices. The speed was amazing with which the group found common ground, generated new ideas, shared resources, coached one another, and formulated plans for the future. The generosity of a group of high achievers who are self-growers offered a taste of what is possible.

The Madison, Wisconsin group was a collection of twenty-three dedicated individuals from a wide array of institutions, geographically dispersed, with greatly different exposure and involvement in Process Education. The energy and productivity was similar to that experienced in Florida as this group built upon ideas and projects initiated by the first group. The meetings allowed authors of modules for edition four of the Faculty Guidebook to collaborate in real time as they built outlines for their individual modules and mutually addressed the comprehensiveness and cohesion of Guidebook sections.

The Academy has the opportunity to take some huge steps as members come together at the University of the District of Columbia in July. As the people from the two separate meetings have the opportunity to work as a united community, they will together design the structure and foundational building blocks for the Academy; they will create a strategic plan, and they will advance the progress on a new publication, The Journal of Process Education. These are exciting times indeed.
