EFLECTION
A big part of choosing or changing your future is assessing your past, learning what you can from it, and
then improving on it. But you also have to have an idea of where you want to go and who you want to be.
When it comes to “visioning your future,” they’re probably on to something when they say, “See it to be
it!”

URPOSE
Many individuals live their lives in the moment merely putting one foot in front of the other in a kind of
random walk never really having a clear direction. This approach can lead to what we often call a “mid-life
crisis,” where one day, the question of “What is the point of my life?” occurs to you and you realize you
don’t really know where you’re headed or where you are in your life.
The point of this experience is to give you the opportunity to reflect upon and think through what has
meaning in and for your life, what you want to accomplish in your life, and how you want to live. You’re
exploring many of these issues in this course; this experience will allow you to thoroughly consider
the context (remember the Theory of Performance?) of your life as it is currently as well as the larger
questions and issues about your relationships, community, and values. Figuring out now how to create
and appreciate direction in your life will help you to create life experiences that fulfill you and encourage
consistent self-growth.

individuals whom you would like to emulate (be like) in some respect. Consider especially individuals
who share or who are employed in your field of interest (i.e., major or educational concentration). Use the
Interview worksheets included with this experience to record their responses.
