Selecting the date for the fathers and daughters dancewas a complex problem that required the cooperation
of multiple institutions. The Dance Committee worked hard every year to make the event as special
and inclusive as possible. Because it was pointed out that some dads have more than one daughter,
the committee decided that the dance would henceforth be open to all children between the ages of 6
and 14 and their fathers. It is something of a proud tradition that the dance has been held in April for
the last 10 years; everyone on the committee agreed that April was best. (“Plus, we can decorate with
tulips!” pointed out Missy Weatherall, who just happened to also own the local nursery.) Eventually the
committee selected April 12th because the calendar showed spring vacation taking the last week of April
and Easter falling during the week of April 18th to 20th. Once the date was set, Tonja Davis pointed out
that the Girl Scouts had scheduled an event for the same day (and they scheduled it just over 8 months
ago and have already published the event in multiple locations). Shortly thereafter, Mr. Mirré spoke up
and reminded the committee that there was a 4-day trip to Quebec planned for the high school students
who were taking French this year and that plane tickets had already been purchased by more than 60
families, including Ms. Weatherall’s niece, if memory served correctly.
