Scenario:
Ivan’s mom has to buy him school supplies for the start of school this fall. The
school sent home a short list of items that he will need: Crayons (at least 16 colors),
a 3-ring binder, ruler, a pack of pencils, a pen, a pencil box, a highlighter, a pack of
lined notebook paper, and scissors. Mom is going to shop at a local store where they
are offering a 25%-off sale on all school supplies, not including backpacks, which
Ivan also needs. Her state has a 5% sales tax on all purchases. Determine the best
buys and the total cost she will have to pay for Ivan’s school supplies and backpack.
