Friends as Mentors
While friends and mentors differ from one another in important ways, our friends have a profound influ-
ence on us and can, at the best of times, have a mentoring-type influence on us. For this experience, revisit
the pre-class activity, but focus on the three most important friendships in your life. These are the friends
who have contributed most to your growth and development, supporting you as you strive to be the person
you want to be. You’re welcome to actually use the same prompts as in the pre-activity (Area of growth/
development, how they helped me grow, and their characteristic enabling them to help me), or you can just
write to those same ideas in a more free-form fashion. Either way, complete the 2-page
