An insight is the identification of new and significant discoveries that were gained by studying a performance. Insights include an explanation of why a discovery is important and how it might be applied to other situations. Leaving the jargon aside, an insight is that AHA! moment where you suddenly see things a little (or a lot) differently. Pacific Crest is pleased to offer a free bi-weekly insight via e-mail. Each issue will be brief and offer an inspiring flash of insight by a workshop participant or educational practitioner connected to just a tidbit of scholarship. We promise to keep the insights short, sweet, and fun to read.

Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines dialogue as, "a conversation between two or more persons; an exchange of ideas and opinions." The Greek roots of the word are dia (dia) meaning "through or across" and logos (logos) meaning "thought, speech, hypothesis, grounds for belief or action, rational mind."

The educational philosopher Paulo Freire believed that egalitarian dialogue was a critical first step in a classroom where teachers and students all learn from each other, as they work to transform their shared understanding (the result of dialogue) into real-world praxis (practice) that has the potential to positively impact the wider world.

We would like to begin to model that approach with a monthly electronic "topic sheet," which we have decided to call Dialogues (debuting 9/1/09). This will be our virtual and egalitarian classroom where all are teachers, all are learners, and all share ideas relating to Process Education so that those ideas may be entertained, tested, tried, and discussed. Our hope is that our readers and contributors will grapple with and respond to the ideas we offer and that together we may actively and collaboratively increase our understanding and create new possibilities.

Each issue of Dialogues will include four provocative articles about different aspects of Process Education. The topics are wide-ranging and of interest to anyone involved in education, whether in academia, in the business world, or as a parent. Planned articles include, Getting the ‘Self’ Out of Self- Assessment and Risk-taking and Risk-imposition. We encourage reaction and response to each article and have committed to sharing the responses we do receive.

Subscribers will receive Dialogues, via e-mail, on the 1st of each month. The price of a yearly subscription (12 issues) is $39.95 with a 50% discount for faculty or staff affiliated with an educational institution (K-12, colleges, community colleges, universities).
