Explanation
Watch it Work!
7. Test
specifications
(of previous
step)
e. Current structure can be
expanded to meet future
needs (Step 6)
Yes; we have space for more bookcases and the
shelves of all are adjustable.
8. Create and
record final
structure
Plan and implement
scheduled changes
in the recommended
design schema or
diagram. Document this
organizational structure.
Identify any new potential
changes for the future
when needs may change.
Recommended design: Fiction gets 2 bookcases
and is separated into novels, graphic novels,
and children’s books (each alphabetized by title).
Reference gets 1 bookcase and is separated
into reference books, owner’s manuals, and
how-to manuals (all alphabetized). Non-fiction
gets 2 bookcases: biographies, photo albums,
cookbooks (alphabetized except albums which
are by year). Each section is separated by
bookends and labels are created to identify each.
Space will be left within each section for new
books to be added. See diagram.

9. Assesment
The end user should have
the opportunity to test the
new structure.
I showed the diagram to the family and the re-
sponse was that there needed to be more space
on each shelf for additional titles in the novel
section, rather than just at the end of that sec-
tion. And with this improvement, everyone was
pleased. We’ve agreed to meet in the library next
Saturday and have a “Let’s Get Organized” party.
