   WHY

The Reading Methodology provides a procedure that can be followed for any reading task that helps
you understand and retain more of what you read. Strong reading skills help you to study and learn more
effectively and efficiently.

   LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Gain a better understanding of the Reading Methodology and how to use it.
2. Learn to implement the Reading Methodology by applying it to a specific reading task.

   PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Criterion #1: your understanding of the Reading Methodology
    Attributes:
    a. completeness of the answers to the questions about the Reading Methodology
    b. accuracy of your answers to the questions about the Reading Methodology

Criterion #2: application of the Reading Methodology
    Attributes:
    a. documented use of each step
    b. comprehension of the content from the selected reading

   PLAN

1. Read Chapter 3 from Foundations of Learning.
2. Review the examples of the Reading Methodology in Foundations of Learning.
3. For this activity, use the article that you read for your reading log. This will deepen your understanding

    of the article and introduce you to the connections between reading and writing. These connections
    will be further explained in Chapter 11.
4. Fill out the Reading Methodology table on the following page as you read the article.
5. Answer the Critical Thinking Questions.
