A warm, sunny weekend in early January in
Florida followed by a similar February gathering in frigid
Wisconsin made it clear that the energy generated is based on
shared deep desires of committed educators and is not dependent
on external conditions. Synergy abounds when talented educators,
from across the country, who share beliefs and practices
grounded in Process Education have an opportunity to gather for
quality time together.
The thirty-two people at Brevard Community College included representatives from all of the
current Centers for Process Educations along with an array of
individuals from across the country. The group included veterans
of Process Education who have been involved for many years and
others who are very new to the concepts and practices. The speed
was amazing with which the group found common ground, generated
new ideas, shared resources, coached one another, and formulated
plans for the future. The generosity of a group of high
achievers who are self-growers offered a taste of what is
possible.
The Madison, Wisconsin group was a
collection of twenty-three dedicated individuals from a wide
array of institutions, geographically dispersed, with greatly
different exposure and involvement in Process Education. The
energy and productivity was similar to that experienced
in Florida as this group built upon ideas and projects
initiated by the first group. The meetings allowed authors of
