PLAN
1. Review “Writing in Various Majors, Fields, and Disciplines” in Chapter 11.
2. Review Chapter 3 on the Reading Methodology.
3. Read Abby’s interview experience on the following pages.
4. Form a small group of four or five students. Using the guidelines given by your instructor on selecting
interviewees, make plans to interview an upperclassman, graduate student, or instructor in at least two
different disciplines.
5. Formulate 4 to 6 interview questions that meet the Performance Criteria for this activity.
6. Schedule a time and a location for your interview. Use e-mail or the phone as a way to expedite these
arrangements. Be sensitive to the fact that you are asking for additional time and input from someone
outside the class and that you will need to find a time and interview method that is convenient for them.
7. After the interviews, report back to the group, sharing the results of your interview (either orally or in
writing, at the discretion of your instructor)
8. Your group should generate a list of tips for reading and writing in each field. Share your list with the
whole class.
