ACTIVITY 6.1                        The Terminology of College
WHY
                                      Learning skills: inquiring, exploring context

The college environment has its own terminology that you must learn as part of your transition to college.
As you encounter new terminology in everyday life as well as in the courses you take, your comfort level
increases the more you are able to “speak the language.” Your ability to learn language quickly in new
settings increases your confidence and your ability to succeed.

   LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Increase your vocabulary of common terms associated with college.
2. Use college terminology correctly in oral and written communication.

   PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Criterion #1: the quality of your team’s definitions
    Attributes:
    a. accuracy (supports the formal definition)
    b. clarity
    c. completeness

Criterion #2: your score on the terminology exam

• College Catalog from your school
• Foundations of Learning textbook

   PLAN

1. Form teams of four or five members.
2. Evenly divide the terms from the Vocabulary List (on the next page) among the teams in your class.
