                                Building a Criteria List

                                  Learning skills: clarifying expectations, exploring context, persisting

   WHY

Criteria are the characteristics or standards by which something or someone can be assessed. The outcome
of an assessment is influenced by the chosen criteria. As part of the assessment process, it is important
that the person being assessed and the assessor determine an agreed upon list of criteria. Being able to
identify and select appropriate criteria strengthens the entire assessment process whether you are assessing
yourself, someone else, or some work product.

   LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Practice building a criteria list.
2. Strengthen your ability to use the Assessment Methodology by analyzing a criteria list used in an

    assessment.

   PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Criterion #1: preparation for class
    Attributes:
    a. review Chapter 13 of Foundations of Learning
    b. answer all the Critical Thinking Questions

Criterion #2: the criteria, attributes, and scales you select for your assessment design
    Attributes:
    a. appropriate for the situation
    b. scales are reasonable and measurable
    c. can be easily implemented
