Assessing a Work Product
Learning skills: observing, recording, being non-judgmental, checking perceptions
WHY
Assessment does not involve judging (as in good or bad) but instead involves giving feedback according
to a set of determined criteria. The ability to assess the quality of a work product is a valuable skill,
often sought after and highly rewarded. The better you are at assessing, the more opportunity there is
for improving your performance in all aspects of your life. This includes the work you produce, your
relationships with people, and improvements you make to your own skill set.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Practice the process of assessing using the Assessment Methodology.
2. Practice building an appropriate criteria list for an assessment.
3. Practice assessing assessments.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Criterion #1: the assessments you perform
Attributes:
a. feedback includes at least two strengths
b. feedback includes at least two areas for improvement along with comments on how to make those
improvements
Criterion #2: the criteria, attributes, and scales you select for your assessment design
Attributes:
a. appropriate for the situation
b. scales are reasonable and measurable
c. can be easily implemented
