“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”

14CONTINUING THE JOURNEY...

What Kind What Kind of Learner Have You Become?
     of Learner
Have You Welcome to the start of your new learning journey! If for some reason
Become? you recently looked back at Chapter 1, or if you have an extremely good
memory, you might recall that this is how we started this course. Why use
Where Are the same welcome here? Because it is even more appropriate now.
    They Now?
                      During this semester, you have
Critical Reflection: not only learned many new things,
What is you have become a stronger, more
                      confident learner. You have learned
   Your Current strategies, methodologies, and
Performance behaviors that will serve you well,
for college assignments as well as
Level? life challenges. You have opened
                      yourself to new experiences, new
Self-Growth people, and, as Miller says, “…a new
Paper way of seeing things.” And, most
                      importantly perhaps, you have gotten
Final to know yourself much better. This,
Thoughts too, will make you a more engaged
                      and successful learner. You don’t
SII Assessment want to let yourself down, right? The
of the Course end of this course is not the end of
your learning or life journey, of course. In the spirit of being “green,” we’ll
Activity 14.1 recycle our travel metaphor from Chapter 1, as well: You have increased
your skills as a traveler. Only you know where your travels will take you,
Self-Growth Paper but we believe you will go far.

At the end of a course or a semester, it’s sometime difficult to articulate
what and how much you have learned. So, we’re giving you a chance to
reflect on your growth. You now know how vital assessment is to real
learning. We know you have grown, so we’d like to make sure you know
this, too. Look back at Chapter 1, and the section on The Performance
Model. Spend some time going over Table 1.2, the Continuum of
Performance Levels rubric, and then read what you wrote in response to
the prompt to determine your current level of performance. Where did you
                      place yourself as a learner?
