Final Thoughts
All of us who have worked on this book are excited about the journey ahead of you. Even though we have
not met you personally, we have had the privilege of working with many students like you over the years...
bright, motivated, open-minded, creative people who make the world a better place. We have given you
the best of our knowledge as former students, current instructors, and process educators. We know you
will use it well. In a poem called “The Promise,” by American poet Jane Hirshfield, she asks the readers
to trust in their futures:
I gazed at the range of blue mountains,
I drank from the stream. Tossed in a small stone from the bank.
Whatever the direction the fates of my life might travel, I trusted.
Trust that you are now a competent traveler in the journey of your life. Trust that even if you don’t yet know
exactly where you’re headed, you have the skills you need in order to continue growing and improving.
You’re not there yet, but you know what you need to do...
And have a wonderful journey!
